1、这句话：Eric set sail once again, this time with 25 ships, of which 14 made it to Greenland.
可以变为Eric set sail once again, this time with 25 ships, 14 of which made it to GL。
2、有from where的说法。比较下列两个句子：
（1）This is a good book from which I learnt a lot.
which是learn的宾语。from which I learnt a lot是定语从句，修饰book。
这句话可以拆分为：This is a good book . From the book I learnt a lot.
（2）I learned a lot From where he does the research.(从他进行探索的地方，我学到了很多。）
where是does the research的地点状语。where he does the research是介词from带的宾语从句。如果把这句话改成I learnt a lot from the place where he does the research. where he does the research就变成定语从句了。
再看你的题目：
(1) XX found himself in an unknown land, from where he eventually reached to GL.（从他最终到达GL的那个地方，他意识到自己正处于一个陌生的陆地上。）
除了to是多余的，这是一个正确的句子。where he eventually reached GL是个宾语从句。
(2)如果把where换成which，句子也是对的。

完全可以变为Eric set sail once again, this time with 25 ships, 14 of which made it to GL。又如：He has five friends here,of whom three are doctors===He has five friends here,three of whom are doctors
2 还有这句话：XX found himself in an unknown land, from where he eventually reached to GL.
如果把这句话拆成两个句子
是不是：1、XX found himself in an unknown land。
2、from the land he eventrally reached to GL.
你是正确的，应该是from which，而不是from where.又如：
They started their second voyage in GL, from which(==GL) they set for Iceland.
